QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major
in guidance and counseling and course work in psychology, testing and
measurement, sociology, and education.
- A teacher’s certificate.
- A certificate as a guidance counselor.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to help them in making educational, occupational, and life plans for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible citizens.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the administration and interpretation of individual standardized test scores
and other pertinent data, and work with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.
- Administer and interpret standardized tests given as part of the district’s total assessment program.
- Remain readily available to students to provide counseling, advice and assistance.
- Supervise the preparation and processing of college scholarship and employment applications.
- Confer with students and/or parents on scheduling of coursework, and formulate schedules best suited to most appropriately fulfill the goals of the students and the school.
- Provide vocational guidance and information for students, and cooperate with business and industry on job references of former students.
- Arrange for college, vocational school, business and industrial representatives to interview students as prospective enrollees or employees.
- Assist students and parents in seeking and qualifying for college admittance and financial assistance.
- Administer the comprehensive model guidance curriculum in the classroom.
- Assist the building administrator in the enrollment of students in the various grade levels or subject areas.
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Board of Education or Superintendent of Schools.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Counselors. |
