QUALIFICATIONS: Principals shall meet state qualifications, plus any special qualifications set forth by the Board of Education.

               

REPORTS TO:           Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent

 

SUPERVISES:                        1.  Assistant principals

  1. Teaching staff, including paraprofessionals
  2. Other professional staff
  3. All non-professional school staff, and other resource and service personnel while functioning in the assigned school.

 

JOB GOAL:               The principal is in charge of the day-to-day operation and management of the school, and is therefore authorized by the Superintendent and Board of Education, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Board of Education, to make and enforce necessary rules governing the school, teachers and students. The principal shall be held responsible for the quality of instruction carried on within their respective school.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To organize and administer the school in conformity with the approved policies of the Board of Education and administrative guidelines of the superintendent.

 

  1. To assume primary responsibility for the total educational program within the school.

 

  1. To assist in staff recruitment and selection and to recommend assignments of personnel within the school.

 

  1. To direct, supervise and evaluate the work of all teaching personnel assigned to the schools. Evaluation of all teaching personnel will be in accordance with state law and school board policies.

 

  1. To maintain good communications and relations between the school district and the community.

 

  1. To guide and direct the teaching staff in curriculum preparation, revision and development, and to assume the responsibility for assisting teachers in interpreting results.

 

  1. To counsel with building staff on matters which pertain to the effectiveness of the school.

 

  1. To assist all staff members in matters of discipline as the need arises.

 

 

  1. To have the power to suspend, not to exceed ten days, any student, in accordance with state statutes and district policies, whose presence in school is detrimental to the best interests of the other students and of the school.

 

  1. To hold regular fire, tornado, and earthquake drills.

 

  1. To see that the school, the school grounds and the school equipment are in good repair and free of hazard, and to request the necessary repairs or changes be made when required.

 

  1. To make regular and monthly reports to the office of the superintendent as required.

 

  1. To participate in the budgeting and planning process as coordinated by the superintendent.

 

  1. To provide the superintendent with all necessary information relative to the schools and perform other duties assigned by the superintendent.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
